coal handling & loadout

Product coal is conveyed from the Mt Owen Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) to the product coal stockpile where it is stockpiled according to coal quality. Coal is then fed into reclaim valves located above the reclaim tunnel by dozer push. Coal is then conveyed to the fully automated train loadout facility.

The Mt Owen CHPP, product handling and load out facilities operate 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.

Domestic product coal from Ravensworth East is hauled to the existing Ravensworth East coal handling facility via internal haul roads where coal is reduced to a nominal size of minus 50 millimetres by rotary breaker and sizers. The coal is then conveyed to a 2,000 tonne surge bin before being conveyed to a 1,000 tonne coal retrieval bin adjacent to the New England Highway. The feed of coal from this bin is controlled by Macquarie Generation. Coal is then conveyed to Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations, approximately 9 kilometres away.

The coal handling facility at the Ravensworth East Mine produces no washery rejects or coal waste. The rotary breaker produces some solid rejects. This reject is suitable for disposing in overburden spoil with no impact on the environment.
